Minter Ellison Lawyers Visit CIETAC

Mr. Ian Cocking, partner of Minter Ellison Lawyers and Mr. Wan Li, the Chief Representative of its Shanghai Office, visited CIETAC on June 18, 2008. Mr. Wang Chengjie, Deputy Secretary-General of CIETAC received the visit.

During the meeting, Mr. Wang Chengjie introduced the development and reform made by CIETAC in recent years. He also discussed with the guests the practice and features of CIETAC arbitration by quoting certain statistics.

The guests raised questions regarding the categories of cases accepted by CIETAC, the trend of increase in case types, place of arbitration and the advantages of CIETAC arbitration. All the questions were answered in details.

Minter Ellison lawyers pointed out that their clients have become increasingly involved in business relations with China. Therefore, they feel it necessary to know more about the dispute resolution mechanisms in China. The guests came to the conclusion that the discussions with CIETAC have enabled them to get a clearer picture of CIETAC arbitration practice and therefore enhanced their confidence in conducting arbitration in China.
