Mr. Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC, attended the ADR in Asia Conference in Hong Kong on 12 September 2008.
The ADR in Asia Conference is an annual event hosted by the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre (HKIAC). The topics of this year's Conference include Negotiation and Drafting of International and Domestic Dispute Resolution Provisions, Procedural and Evidentiary Issues before the Arbitral Tribunal, Enforcement of Arbitral Awards, Recent Trends in Construction Arbitration and How Mediators Handle Ethical and Confidentiality Dilemmas.
Mr. Yu spoke on the Issue of Sovereign Immunity in regard to Enforcement of Arbitral Awards. In his speech, he dealt with the following issues: introduction about the theory of sovereign immunity; sovereign immunity in the context of arbitration; categories of state assets that is appropriate for enforcement of arbitral awards; introduction about the United Nations Convention on Jurisdictional Immunities of States and Their Property; and the PRC perspective on sovereign immunity; etc.
