The New CIETAC Arbitration Rules will Come into Force on May 1st, 2005

The New Panel of Arbitrators will come into effect

as from May 1, 2005

    Through careful examination by CIETAC Arbitrators?Credentials Committee and under the review of the 3rd Chairmen Plenary Session of the 16th Commission of CIETAC hold on March 2, 2005, China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC) has revised the CIETAC Panel of Arbitrators. The Chinese arbitrators, arbitrators coming from Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Taiwn Region and foreign arbitrators have been augmented, meanwhile some of the arbitrtors including some Chinese arbitrators, some arbitrators coming from Hong Kong SAR and some foreign arbitrators are decided not to continue to be listed on the CIETAC Panel of Arbitrators due to their age, health and other reasons. In addition, the Panels of Arbitrators in special industry are also established.

    Until now, there are seven Panels of Arbitrators under the auspices of the CIETAC, i.e. one major Panel with six special Panels, that is Panel of Arbitrators for International (Foreign-related) Disputes(the major Panel), Panel of arbitrators for Domestic Disputes, Panel of Arbitrators in Financial Industry, Panel of Arbitrators in Construction, Land & Building Transactions, Panel of Arbitrators in Grain Industry, Panel of Arbitrators in Leather Industry and Panel of Arbitrators for Disputes Arising out of the Woll Standard Contract between China, Australia and New Zealand. Totally, ther are 1025 arbitrators on the said seven Panels of Arbitrators including 793 Chinese arbitrators and 232 arbitrators coming from Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Taiwan Region and foreign countries.

    The said seven Panels and the Instructions on the Application thereof will come into effect as from May 1, 2005. These Panels of Arbitrators shall apply to the arbitration cases accepted by the CIETAC after May 1, 2005. The old Panel of Arbitrators shall apply to the arbitration case accepted by the CIETAC before May 1, 2005.
